What is #FieldofSecondChances? Field of Second Chances is a collaborative fundraising and awareness campaign that brings together two organizations dedicated to kindling hope and cultivating independence: Andee's Army and Canine Companions for Independence®.
The campaign will culminate in an on-field presentation during the Braves vs. Dodgers game on Saturday July 28th, 2018, in which Andee's Army and Canine Companions for Independence® will name two assistance dogs after community leaders who embody (and inspire) hope and independence - SCI Activist and former UGA second baseman, Chance Veazey, and Braves pitcher, Mike Foltynewicz.
All Braves vs. Dodgers tickets sold through ourwebsite will benefit the work being done at Canine Companions For Independence® and Andee's Army; tickets sold through all other platforms will not benefit either organization.
HOW DID FIELD OF SECOND CHANCES COME ABOUT?
Field of Second Chances is a collaborative fundraising and awareness campaign benefiting Andee's Army and Canine Companions for Independence®. Our aim is to shed light on the work each organization is doing, while celebrating our shared passion for independence and belief in the power of hope.
WHO IS CHANCE VEAZEY?
Chance is a a former University of Georgia second baseman, whose baseball career ended tragically in 2009 when he sustained a complete spinal cord injury from his T-8 through his T-10 vertebrae. He was only a freshman.
For Chance, continuing to gain independence became a priority after his injury; he was going to drive, hunt, and live life to the fullest - no matter what. Andee's Army and Canine Companions for Independence® are proud to name an assistance dog in Chance's honor. His independent spirit, sheer force of will and incredible ability to spread hope to everyone he encounters (especially other injured athletes) make him a powerful advocate for others living with SCI.
WHO IS MIKE FOLTYNEWICZ?
Mike Foltynewicz is a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves; a father; a husband; a dad (to doggies and a little man!); and an amazing community leader.
Folty created #FoltyFriday - a roaming pizza party where Folty brings pizza and cheer to classrooms around the greater Atlanta area - to inspire and encourage local little ones. Andee's Army and Canine Companions for Independence® are proud to name an assistance dog in Folty's honor. His willingness to use his talent and platform to serve our Atlanta community and love for little ones and animals make him a deserving honoree.
